Dark Mana – by Orlandicus September 2021

Summary

The bass is acoustic and was recorded in a music studio at school. The production and after effects also happened on school site, special thanks to the music department for letting me record acoustic samples. The eerie effect is created by using atmospheric synthesizers. The piano was played on an electric piano with added effects. Towards the beginning I recorded a cymbal and reversed the sound to construct a riser effect. At the end of the piece drifts into white noise, this creates the effects of the piece traveling into the clouds. Quietly. Peacefully.

Summary

I started working on this piece on the 5th of July and completed it a week later, but the effects that I added after took longer. Overall I used a mixture of genres of music and combined it into a fusion. With the Synthesizers, I’ve added special effects to create a distant sound. I got my inspiration from a George Michael song from his 1996 album Older, especially the drum pattern.

At Paxman’s to pick up a New Double French Horn

Last week I injured my left index finger during the DofE Bronze expedition. I decided to continue with the exam, although I had difficulties in practising. I passed Grade 4 which was a huge achievement for me considering my left index finger is vital for playing the French Horn.

This weekend, I went with my Dad to Paxman’s in central London, to swap my French Horn with a brand new Double French Horn. Before, I had a French Horn in the key of F whereas now I have a Double Horn that can switch between F and B flat.

I’m looking forward to achieving higher grades and participating in the orchestra’s at school. In September I’m going to start having lessons with a specialist in French Horn.

EXPERIENCE: I have been working on this project for 2 months. Due to the fact that I have had so many projects happening at the same time, I stopped working on this piece for a few weeks but after searching through my archives I found it along with other unfinished projects. I thought that it was time to finish it once and for all!

EXPERIENCE: I have been working on this piece for roughly a month during the lock-down. This piece of music uses instruments such as electric drum machines and piano synthesisers. During these hard times I have been working extra hard to get this piece completed. Listen and reflect.
